Claude Haiku 5.5 drew the same SVG pelican in 7 seconds for 0.0936 cents at low effort, and in 5 minutes 9 seconds for 3.3826 cents at max.

That comes from Simon Willison’s write-up of Anthropic’s new Haiku release, published on 7 October 2026.

Haiku 5.5 cannot switch reasoning off. It defaults to medium, so the cheapest setting you can pick is low, and the price of one task depends on a dial as much as on the price list.

The headline price is $0.10 input and $0.50 output per million tokens up to 100,000 tokens, which matches OpenAI’s GPT-6 Luna. Beyond 100,000 the Haiku price rises fivefold. Luna’s only rises at 272,000 tokens, and by far less.

A new tokenizer means the same long prompt uses about 1.25 times as many tokens as it did on Haiku 4.5. That is a price rise that never appears on the price list.

The Haiku 4.5 pelican cost 0.7583 cents and came out poor. Haiku 5.5 produced a good bicycle frame at every level above low.
